The Sacred Grove
|
The history of the Sacred Grove begins during the early
1800's when a renewed interest in religion caused several
spiritual revivals to spring up in western New York.
As a young boy Joseph Smith became very interested in
religion. While pondering this question he came across
a passage in the Bible in James chapter one verse five,
which states "If any of you lack wisdom, let him
ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth
not; and it shall be given him."
He then decided to go into a grove of trees on his
family's farm to pray and ask God which of all the churches
that he should join. As a result of his prayer God the
Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to the young
boy. As a result of this vision The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter - Day Saints was founded ten years
later in Fayette, New York.
The sacred grove still stands as it did in Joseph's
day and can be visited daily.
